Ownership of research findings

Ownership of research findings from MIC projects is determined in accordance with the Kyoto University inventions policy.

  1. In principle, research findings from MIC projects are to be shared.
  2. Details based on the above premise are to be stipulated in the collaborative research agreement.
  3. In cases where the collaborating partner desires exclusive rights to research findings, the University will consider licensing or transferring its rights.
  4. The University, however, retains the option of freely licensing or transferring to a third party its rights to intellectual property acquired from research findings that the collaborating partner does not intend to use, provided that the extent of that content is clearly stipulated before the fact in a collaborative research agreement.
